Hi,
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate in a Dell laptop E1705 as a test. When I installed the OS, my laptop had a very old battery that will completely discharge after only 5 minutes, the battery meter seemed to detect this correctly and turned off the PC accordingly. I bought a new battery directly from DELL and it seems to recharge and discharge as expected (lasts 3 hours). But the Windows 7 battery meter seems to 'remember' the old battery behaivor or something is really wrong with it. When I am on battery, even tough the battery meter reports 99% charged it shows a yellow alert and tells me that the battery is low. When the battery reaches around 77% or 80% charge it tells me the battery is critical and turns the computer off!! If I turn on the computer again after this, it keeps telling me the battery is critical at 80%!!! I can keep working normally (with now a red alert) for 2 and a half hours like this and when finally the charge reaches 1% Windows does not detect that is really critical and does not shutdown the computer. The battery will simply drain completely and the laptop will turn off suddenly. I checked the battery health and charge in the DELL bios and it seems correct. The Windows battery meter reports the charge correctly, it is the actions it takes that are incorrect. How can I change this??? How can I tell windows not to shutdown at 80% battery charge but at 10%. Any ideas how to solve this??? Thank you.
